My Favorite Five from December/January
Favorite Non-Fiction Book: Zero Waste Home by Bea Johnson
One woman’s account of her techniques to reduce her family’s trash to a one-quart Mason jar per year. I’m not yet ready to switch to all bulk shopping and bringing your own containers to the grocery store, but I have started using cloth napkins instead of paper, handkerchiefs instead of tissues, and composting (through a service called CompostWheels since I live in an apartment). I have already noticed a significant change in how much trash I accumulate!
Favorite Show: Book of Mormon
My boyfriend and I went to see this hilarious show at the Fox Theatre and loved it. Don’t bring your kids or anyone who gets offended easily. Check the link for tour dates!
Favorite Recipe: Homemade Pizza
Besides an unfortunate incident with a cheese grater, this pizza was fairly easy to make from scratch and delicious. We used mozzarella, pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms as toppings. I also liked the homemade dough a lot better than pizza dough they sell at grocery stores (even Trader Joe’s)
Favorite Trips: DC + Dallas
Yes, these were the only two trips I took in December and January, but I had so much fun on both I couldn’t choose. I was able to go to hockey games in both cities and explore beautiful parks, museums, and great restaurants. My DC favorites were the Newseum (seriously one of the best museums I have ever been to), Library of Congress, and the Washington Capitals game. My Dallas favorites were the Dallas Stars game, the Reunion Tower, and La Hacienda (one of my Dallas family’s favorite Tex Mex places). Sending love to the friends and family I was able to spend time with on these vacations as well!
Favorite New Thing: Allowing myself to take a break over the holidays
You may have noticed that I have not been posting recently. For the first time in awhile, I let myself spontaneously take a break over the holidays and through January, which has been a very stressful month at work for me. I am looking forward to return to posting regularly, but it was wonderful to not give myself a hard time about skipping obligations that I just didn’t have the energy to fulfill. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year’s!
